www.aljazeera.com/programmes/peopleandpower/2011/10/2011102683719370179.html"Charles and David Koch are each worth about $25bn, which makes them the fourth richest Americans. When you combine their fortunes, they are the third wealthiest people in the world. Radical libertarians who use their money to oppose government and virtually all regulation as interference with the free market, the Kochs are in a class of their own as players on the American political stage. Their web of influence in the US stretches from state capitals to the halls of congress in Washington DC." "Meanwhile, the Kochs are rounding up hundreds of millions of dollars for the 2012 elections. In January, they held another of their secret meetings with wealthy conservatives at a lush resort in Palm Springs, California. New attendees included the casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, who with his family has given $16.5m to the Super PAC backing Newt Gingrich, and Foster Friess, a wealthy financier supporting Rick Santorum in the Republican primaries. Obama is doing his best to raise a billion dollars for the presidential race, and break all fundraising records. But Lee Fang, an investigator with the Republic Report, told reporter Bob Abeshouse that the “Kochs will have a tremendous impact. On a larger scale this election will come down to a few billionaires: a couple on the left supporting the Democrats, and a lot on the right supporting the Republicans. I think in 2013 people will look back on this election as the greatest one bought and sold.” This is the REAL Game of Thrones...

I think you’re analyst is incorrect. Game of Thrones places honor before riches. Even the Lanisters have honor, unlike Barack Hussein Obama who could not find honor if it was shit on his head.

Oh, the problems of the 1%. Makes you cry. www.smartmoney.com/invest/strategies/can-billionaire-ron-baron-stay-afloat-in-todays-market-1337096190689/?grcc=81f83be723e892b7aeb4be5fc21d439dZ3ZhpgeZ0Z13Z200Z20Z2&mod=WSJ_hpp_sections_personalfinance&zone=intromessage"But as bright as the outlook may have seemed in, say, 1998, it's now 2012, and the past few years have been a grimmer story. Since 2007, Baron Growth has been just about even with its benchmarks, and other funds in his family are also mediocre performers. Most money managers, of course, have struggled to thrive since the financial crisis. Baron's bad times, however, look even gloomier compared with his high-flying past, and investors are voting with their feet: Shareholders have withdrawn money from Baron Funds more than three times as fast as they have from stock funds in general."

www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-06-04/hidden-billionaire-morse-a-man-behind-curtain-at-villages.html "Billionaire H. Gary Morse, 75, controls almost every facet of life at the Villages, one of the world’s largest retirement communities. On a 33-square-mile parcel 15 miles south of Ocala, Florida, halfway between Jacksonville and Tampa, he’s built and sold more than 44,000 homes since 1983. He’s created 39 golf courses and developed 4.5 million square feet of commercial space, including two hotels, 60 restaurants and two movie theaters. Morse owns the local newspaper, a television channel and an AM radio station. His realty company controls 60 percent of the re-sale market in the Villages, whose commercials have been fixtures on the Golf Channel. His bank lends to retirees fleeing south; his insurance company provides them coverage. He even gets paid to pick up the trash and organize tee times. For all his ubiquity, most outside of Florida have never heard of him." I have a feeling most billionaires are control freaks. Unsurprisingly, he's a GOP donor.

I think if I started this thread now I'd call it the "Attack of the Billionaires"... www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/13/sheldon-adelson-mitt-romney-super-pac-restore-our-future_n_1593268.html"Billionaire conservative casino mogul Sheldon Adelson, who helped keep Newt Gingrich's failed presidential campaign alive during the Republican primaries, is giving $10 million to the super PAC supporting the presumptive GOP nominee, Mitt Romney, according to people with knowledge of the matter." Romney's super PAC is the one with that goofy name, "Restore Our Future". As I said before, how can you restore a future?

Just a little "balanced" perspective for JD! Tycoon shakes up cancer drug market with price cuts Indian pharmaceutical tycoon Yusuf Hamied revolutionised AIDS treatment more than a decade ago by supplying cut-price drugs to the world's poor -- and now he wants to do the same for cancer. Hamied, chairman of generic drugs giant Cipla, last month slashed the cost of three medicines to fight brain, kidney and lung cancer in India, making the drugs up to more than four times cheaper. "I hope we'll cut prices of many more cancer drugs," he told AFP, adding that he wants to supply the cheaper drugs to Africa and elsewhere. "Reducing the price of cancer drugs is a humanitarian move." <clip> health.yahoo.net/news/s/afp/tycoon-shakes-up-cancer-drug-market-with-price-cuts

OK, that's valid. Even billionaires can't be consistently evil.

www.latimes.com/business/realestate/la-fi-ellison-buying-lanai-20120622,0,3027419.story "Tech billionaire Larry Ellison, already well-known for his extravagance, will soon own another exotic trophy — a Hawaiian island. Ellison, the founder of Oracle Corp., has agreed to buy 98% of the island of Lanai from David Murdock, a Los Angeles billionaire who controls Dole Food Co. and many other businesses under Castle & Cooke Inc. Lanai, the sixth-largest Hawaiian island at 141 square miles, was once a pineapple plantation and is still sparsely inhabited. According to documents filed with Hawaii's Public Utilities Commission, the purchase will include two resort hotels and two golf courses with clubhouses." I suppose I could say something about the injustice of billionaires being able to own entire Hawaiian islands stolen from the Hawaiians, but you've heard it all before.
Probably the native Hawaiians on the island are just happy to have jobs.

20+ years ago we owned a home in Puamana, we could see Lanai from our back porch. Today about 3,800 live on Lanai and it was once a Dole Pineapple Plantation run by Reptilian Nancy Pelosi’s husband, his employees were treated like slaves.

The rich are the rich no matter what party. And they will "always be with us". Okay, let me clarify. My exposure was limited to a half dozen guys that worked the pineapple plantation on Lanai. They also grew pot and came to Lahaina to sell their wares. For some strange reason I seem to connect with pot growers, my wife says it’s my aura, so my recollection comes from an altered state conversation.
